Whether you run a branded community, a tech community, or a community about recipes it’s always a great idea to have an off-topic area for your members to chat and get to know each other. In this section they can have a little fun, chit-chat about everyday stuff or topical events, and slowly start to connect and build relationships with each other. Here are some ideas of conversation starters that you could seed the off-topic area with to get them going, or even discussions you could periodically start yourself to keep the chat flowing:
What’s the weather like in your part of the world?
Share a little something about yourself that others wouldn’t know.
What made you sad today?
What made you smile today?
Come on, own up. What’s the oldest consumable you have in your house?
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?
What are you reading?
What did we do in the evenings before the internet?
What music are you listening to?
Seen a film recently? Share your reviews here.
What brought you to this community?
Joke of the Day. Share a joke with everyone.
Ok I know what you are thinking … “this is very simplistic stuff” but you get the picture. Give people something to dip in and out of, and eventually they will be dipping in more often, and then they may take it to the next step. It’s a great way to get them on the first rung of Cogs Ladder. You’ve got nothing to loose and everything to gain. So give it a go.

3 things that made me happy this week ( so far)
1. I recently watched Mr. Nobody.. what a movie! it blew my mind. It is a beautiful work with incredible insights into life, choices and time. wonderful. highly recommended.
2. I finished reading ( third time!) The Thank You Economy by Gary Vaynerchuck. Absolutely brilliant. The book is all about the reality of building online relationships and the power of social media.
3. I finally bought a piece from the artist Emilio Garcia, a Jumping Brain. I’ve been trying to buy one for long time and I finally got it. I can’t stop staring at it on my desk.
There you go Sue
Have a wonderful day!

I’m currently reading Philippa Gregory’s latest book “The Lady of the Rivers.” I’m a big fan of her books.
